ABOUT

Global Burden of Hip Fractures (GHB) is a multi-national research study on hip fractures, involving 19 countries and regionsfrom Asia, Oceania, North and South America, Western and Northern Europe. It is the largest cohort investigation on hip fractures, with access to their patient-level electronic health data for big data analysis in the incidence and mortality rate of hip fractures across the globe. Through this international study, the research team hopes to raise public awareness of the burdens of hip fractures, thus providing support for policymaking in the management of the aging population.

STUDY DETAILS

Funding Source

The project is funded by Amgen Inc.

Study Period

From 01 January 2005 to 31 December 2018

Study Size

The study will be able to cover more than 400M patients worldwide, producing reliable estimates of global hip fracture population.

Population

Patient who is aged 50 years or above with no missing records and was hospitalised due to hip fractures will be included in our study.

Methods

A common protocol and an analytical common data model (ACDM) are provided to each collaborating site to ensure consistent analysis.

Concept of analytical common data model (ACDM)

The coordinating centre will provide a programming in SAS or R format for each site to perform the data analysis. The study coordinator will not receive any patient-level data from the sites. Instead, each site will conduct the analysis locally and share aggregated results with the study coordinator. Upon receipt of the aggregate data, the coordinating centre and Amgen will evaluate the rationality of the results.
